Updates and excitment

This time of year is extra hectic for teachers I think. With the first TAKS test in a little over a week, it is crunch time. I feel like we are so far behind thanks to the 2 weeks we lost to weather and benchmarking. I have to remind myself that there is nothing that can be done, except to adapt and overcome. The worst part though, is that as soon as we take the Writing TAKS, we have Spring Break, and then a little over a month until the Reading TAKS. Poor 7th grade students (and English teachers) it is very difficult to prepare them for 2 TAKS tests in one 50 minute period a day. I think in the end though, they will do a great job.

A and I had a lot of extra time off this month. We weren't able to get out during the snow days. (My driving skills are not up to par when it comes to ice.) The first 3 days we were home it was too cold to even go out! Then on the 4th day, the real snow came, and it was too much to resist. We lasted about 5 minutes before she lost her mittens and was ready to come in.

J and I joined a local gym on New Year's Eve, and I have to say, we have been doing a really good job of going! I am addicted to spin. I can only go 4x's a week, but I would go everyday if I could. It is amazing how great you feel after. During, well, that seat is mighty uncomfortable, but once your booty goes numb it is smooth sailing.

J and I also just booked a trip to London. We will be married 5 years this August (together for 8 total!). So we decided to take a vacation sans A. Then, we found out who was playing at Bonnaroo and decided to do that too! I have never before gone to a multi-day music fest, I am nervous. I have a family member and some friends that have been though, so they are advising us on what we need to know. Right now, the summer is promising to be super!

Facts you might not know about me...

I don't follow football, and I abhor the Black Eyed Peas, so rather than do nothing, I thought I would post something.

1. I have a very hard time falling asleep. I often lay in bed for hours worrying about things I can not change. Crossword puzzles and Sudoku help.

2. I love Payday candy bars.

3. I am very particular about how I eat certain candies. Especially M&M's and Skittles.

4. I am currently off Dr. Pepper, but if I knew I could drink one and still lose weight, I would. Without question.

5. If I had three wishes they would be:
  • To be able to reach into my pocket and pull out the exact amount of money I needed at the moment forever.
  • To be able to eat or drink whatever I want and always weigh 120 pounds.
  • To go back in time and do some things over, but only if I could guarantee I would end up with J and A.
6. I love to snow ski and water ski.

7. My current favorite bands/musicians are:
  • Band of Horses
  • The Decemberists
  • Sufjan Stevens
8. I love Criminal Minds.

9. If I had the money I would get a nose job.

10. I wish I had known about hair straighteners in 8th grade.

11. I have no real talents or skills.

12. I wanted to be a lawyer when I was a child.

13. I competed in beauty pageants as a child.

14. I think my husband could do better, but am glad he doesn't.

15. I often check that the door is locked 4 or 5 times before I go to bed.

16. I have eaten food out of the trash.

17. I have superbly amazing and beautiful friends.

Icemageddon 2011

A and I have been trapped in our house for three days and counting. Don't get me wrong, I hoped for a day off work, but four! It is so cold, we can't even go outside. Tomorrow I think we are going to have to brave the frigid temps and at least venture to the mailbox.

Over the last three days we have:

Chased bubbles.
Played on the indoor slide.
Watched a lot of Sesame Street and Yo Gabba Gabba.

We are out of paper to paint on and we can't find all the crayons. Tomorrow will be interesting.

I am sorely missing the gym. I just discovered that I love spin class, and I have not been able to get there since Sunday. I missed Tuesday and Thursday. I really hope things are nice so I can go Saturday morning.

Anyway, time to go sit back in front of the fire, wrap up in a blanket, and be glad our power is on.
